After eight years as a mobile development consultancy, Masabi re-focused and relaunched as transport mTicketing company in 2010, launching its first service that year. Masabi is the leading developer of mobile ticketing technology for the transport sector. Its award-winning ‘Ticket Machine in Your Pocket’ applications signal the end of ticket queues by allowing passengers to quickly and securely buy and display tickets on almost any mobile phone, not just smartphones. Masabi works with half of the UK’s train operating companies including Virgin Trains, First Group and Cross Country. In November 2012 the company launched the first commuter rail smartphone ticketing service in the US with Boston’ MBTA. The Boston deployment is the first to use Masabi's JustRide system. JustRide is a comprehensive mTicketing solution including: consumer-facing applications, management console, backend servers, payment integration and scanning/validation software for train conductors. Boston deployed the system in just seven months and saved more than $70m vs a comparable smartcard solution.
